2002 Acura TL -Type S V6 from North America

Summary:

A sporty ride in a four door package.

Faults:

The only thing so far is the Autodown on the drivers window stopped working. The window goes down just the Auto feature stopped working. I'll get it fixed under warranty.

General Comments:

I like the feel and handling of the car. The engine has plenty of power for this sedan. It's comfortable on long distance cruises too. The gas mileage is great AND my transmission still works fine. Had the brakes checked and all the pads and rotors look good. Trunk is nice size. The only complaint I have is that the Bose stereo is not that good. My Dodge Caravan has a better stereo. Can't have everything I guess.

2002 Acura TL TLS 3.2 from North America

Summary:

Excellent car. Buy only if you don't want to pay $37,000 for an ES300 or 330i, etc, etc

Faults:

Nothing major. Bose sound system could be a little better. I'm used to the 200Watt Monsoon 8 speaker system in the Jetta, so a 5 speaker Bose system will get some getting used to. But it's very very decent. Like the 6CD in-dash changer though.

General Comments:

I just got the car 3 days ago. So far so good. Rides smoother than my Jetta GLX VR6 with the sport susp. and the 17" wheels. Despite having the 17" wheels and sport susp. as well. Cabin is decently quite. I'd give it a 8.5/9 out of 10. Car looks nice. Main reason I got it is because I was tired of all the little annoying problems my Jetta had. I think I made a very good decision. I'm enjoying. :-) It's as good as Lexus with out the $37,000 sticker. As far as the reliability is concerned, it's a Honda. We have a 97 Accord with 155K and its still running very strong.

Good luck with your decision.

PS. My insurance went down $38/6mo. from the Jetta!! What a deal!! ;-)

Why do some go out at 13,000 miles and some go out at 60,000 miles or even 150,000 miles. Could this mean that the driver may be abusing the car more than others are? If I were working at Honda I would study these parts and see if these car are being abused or not (13k Trans failure). OH well, spose I'd better put saw dust in the transmission then complain to Honda it failed at 15,000 miles.

The transmissions on these vehicles are garbage, plain and simple. Mine went at 39,000 miles and I don't drive in an abusive manner. There is no way I would recommend an Acura vehicle to anybody. Their service is garbage too.

Our first trans went at 28000 miles, driven conservatively by a 55 year old lady. Sawdust sure... why would you spend 34000 for a new car and put sawdust in it? To prove a point, but you are the low mileage owner? The trans are weak in these cars. I had a Legend new and it was OK. Call it what it is, not dream up an excuse for these TLs.
