The first two comments (power seats and dash lights) are things you should have noticed and had fixed BEFORE you left the dealer.

I know that sounds condescending, but as the buyer, you are responsible to give the car you are thinking of purchasing a full and complete look and evaluation before you even think of buying it.

2000 Cadillac DeVille 3.2 Northstar from North America

An upgrade for 97-99 De-ville Owners

2000 Cadillac DeVille dhs northstar from North America

Summary:

Doesn't have the level of manufacturing quality found in Cadillacs 15 years ago

Faults:

The car developed a vibration between 65-75 miles per hour. Similar to problems expressed by others on this site. Car was down to last 3,000 miles or warranty, so I took an aggressive approach with the dealer.

General Comments:

The dealer first recommended new tires. I put on the same brand (Michelin Symmetrys) as original equipment. Also replaced two slightly bent wheels. Didn't help. Dealer installed new control arms. Didn't help. Dealer power balanced the tires. Didn't help. Dealer installed new trans-axles (drive shaft from the transmission to the wheel). FIXED IT!!

I agree on Cadillac losing it's touch for quality in some vehicles. But they were phasing out old designs and messing with new ones, so it's standard. I have a 90 DeVille. I love it. Nothing wrong with it, but a switch in the driver's door jamb, and that's understandable, seeing as it's used every time you open or close the door.

2000 Cadillac DeVille DHS 4.6L V8 from North America

Summary:

Nice car, but lots of trouble

Faults:

The engine knocks and pings, even though I am using premium gas, and the dealership cannot find a way to improve it. The last time I was at the dealership, they gave me a copy of the owner's manual page that states that knocking and pinging is expected in this car!!!

I am having to add a quart of oil every 1000 miles, and I think that is way too much! The dealership has done an oil consumption test, but can't find any problem.

The rear stabilizer makes too much noise, and seems to start and stop at unexplained intervals. The dealership has told me this is within normal levels.

General Comments:

I love the seat back heaters in both the front and back of the car. That is my favorite feature.

I enjoy the roominess of the interior.

This car is fantastic. I find it extremely hard to believe that a dealership would show you an owners manual that would have any flaw admitted about a car written in it. If your car has any problems then maybe the main problem is the owner of the cars consistent maintenance or lack there of, to the vehicle. Like a parent and a child, the child cannot be blamed for their character flaws resulting from a poor up-bringing.

2000 Cadillac DeVille Sedan from North America

Summary:

Except for some problems, a wonderful car!

Faults:

I have major problems with vibration on my 2000 Cadillac Deville. I bought it brand new and experienced the first problems around 8,000 miles. And as of today I still have the same vibration between 60 MPH and 70 MPH.

The car was in the shop over and over again, but until today GM was still not able to determine and fix the problem.

They balanced the wheels, changed the tires, etc. - no effect.

Other than that, I "only" had the power steering pump replaced (just quit working), and all CAM shafts (I had a rough idle from begin), which then took care of the problem.

General Comments:

I'm looking for Cadillac DeVille owners - specially years 2000-2002 - which have/had the same problems with their car.

Please post your comment or reply here.

I recently purchased a 2000 Deville DTS with 17000 miles and have experienced some of the same problems with the vibrations between 60 and 70 mph and the rough idle. I was preparing to take mine to the dealer and decided to surf the net to see if there was other info on problems with the car.
