1991 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 from North America - Comments

"Runs hot, but worth it!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Replaced the alternator.

That's about it.

General comments?

It's a good car, but runs really hot. It's pretty fast. Has a 16.0sec 1/4 mile. The transmission is really rough though and I don't like it. I changed to a 160 degree thermostat and a chip and now it seems to run right. Otherwise it runs at a 197 degrees and when it warms up it loses power a little.

If you want a car with some nuts, but aren't into racing, get it, but if you are into racing then I suggest you either get a 2000 Z24 or a 91 Eagle Talon TSI. Just don't buy a HONDA, everyone and their mother has one.

I found that my Cavalier has a lot of power (when the car has been lightened). It is a 1991 3.1 5-spd and I can race it all day long and beat cars with the names of Mustang, Camaro and other muscle cars. I feel this car has a lot of hidden potential that you just have to find out for your self.

I ran a 13.21 on the 1/4 mile, and I was happy.

You must have taken everything out of the car to lighten it enough to shave a full 3 or 4 seconds off your quarter mile and a full 2 seconds off your 0-60 times to beat a Mustang. I am thinking you are now sitting on a box in a stripped out interior, and there are no doors, hood or trunk on your car.
