2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS 3.1 from North America

Summary:

Chevrolet would have many repeat customers if the overall quality would improve

Faults:

The front disk brake pads replaced at 39,000 miles with rotors turned.

Replaced fuel tank module (70,000 miles) at a cost of $650.00.

General Comments:

This is my second Mailbu and will be my last. Previously owned a 1998 Malibu.

The Malibu is noisy at all road speeds.

The brakes are poorly engineered and one should not have to replace at 39,000 miles when all driving is freeway useage.

Replaced the fuel pump module at (70,000 miles) a cost of $650.00 for parts and labor. The over the counter price for the module and required gasket is $393.00 which is just plain highway robbery.

The check engine light just came on at 70,000 miles and bracing myself for another high cost repair.

Replace the first set of Firestone tires at 43,000 miles. I made the mistake of purchasing another set of same brand. Would recommend to anyone to replace with a set of Michelins and live with the higher road noise.

The highway mileage is very good at 31 MPG and the engine is very snappy.

2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS 2.8 from North America

Summary:

Over price versus reliability

Faults:

I had rotor problems from day one. I need to have the rotors turn at 10,000 miles and replaced at the next 10,000.

Electric mirrors do not work after one year.

Air conditioning is poor.

Air flow does not work.

Water drains into the interior when running the air conditioner.

Power steering hose broke.

Water pump just failed.

Passive key security system acts up and prevents you from starting the car for twenty minutes until it resets itself.

General Comments:

This is not a car you can rely on to safely transport your family in. I have broken down on the interstate three times driving to work.

2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

Good value for the money

Faults:

I had the front rotor problem that was fixed under a service bulletin.

The strange problem I have is that with the air conditioning running the CD in the player becomes wet from condensation. This doesn't happen all the time.

General Comments:

I didn't see any other reports like this and wonder am I the only one with the problem. Is there a generic problem with the design that hasn't been reported yet. The radio sits just below the center vents. When the dealer repaired it the service rep said there was very little space between them. I saw several reviews on the loss of tracking of the CD. Could condensation be the cause of the problem?

2000 Chevrolet Malibu V6 from North America

Summary:

A waste of my hard earned money

Faults:

The brakes do not work properly. The brake pads have been changed three times. The engine has failed while driving down the road four different times. The air conditioner does not work properly. The turn signals and emergency flashers have never worked properly.

General Comments:

I will never purchase another General Motors product. This has been the worst vehicle I have ever driven. I feel very unsafe in this car and fear for my life. General Motors could care less.

2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

Great performance bargain

Faults:

Hazard switch had to be replaced by the dealer. Thankfully this was covered by the warranty.

General Comments:

This has been a great car for the money. Bought it used from Hertz car sales. I have had no major problems and car performs excellent.

The 3.1 V6 surprisingly outperforms the larger 3.4 V6 in the Chevrolet Impala LS. I have raced my friend several times with no losses.

Will definitely upgrade this car with minor modifications. Would also prefer that it was manufactured as a manual. The only reason I would like to purchase a new car, is the fact that it is not a manual.
