1994 Dodge Shadow ES 3.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

A Great Car at a Cheap Price

Faults:

Cloth ceiling fell down.

Starter went out around 175,000 miles.

Had to replace front brakes at 180,000 miles.

Leaks oil.

Had to replace plastic headlight covers because the plastic deteriorated from clear into yellow tinted and cloudy.

Replaced front ball joints around 170,000 miles.

Trunk leaks water.

General Comments:

I love this car! The V-6 with the manual transmission is really fast. It has plenty of spare power.

The turning radius is terrible, and the steering isn't very crisp.

This car handles amazingly well in snow. I've never come even close to slidding into the ditch.

The seats are some of the most comfortable seats ever put into an automobile. After hours of driving, I've never felt uncomfortably stiff. Surprising for such a cheap car.

This car has never left me stranded anywhere. Within the last year, the only thing that I had to have repaired was the front brakes.

The V-6 engine really kicks the car around especially with the manual transmission. The first driving impression gives that of a 1980's pick up truck, but once you get used to the clutch it is one of the most fun cars to drive.

I've driven many cars including SAABS, Fords, Buicks, and Oldsmobiles, and my car is the most fun to drive.

This car is great on gas. I get anywhere from 25-30 mpg.

1994 Dodge Shadow LX 2.2 from North America

Summary:

Great little car

Faults:

There seems to be a chugging, and slight hesitation the odd time when when we are driving on the highway.

It only seems to do it in the summer months. The car run like a dream in the winter. Every once and a while, when you turn the key off, the car will keep running. The only real work that we have had to do was the head gasket at about 150000 km's.

General Comments:

Would love to know the cause of the above, so that we may fix it, as it has been a great car. My wife just loves it. We would hate to have to get rid of it.

1994 Dodge Shadow ES from North America

Faults:

Well, the person that owned the car before me got into an accident. I need to buy a new hood, a bumper, and side panels for the front. Other than that, nothing has gone wrong with the car.

General Comments:

I got my Dodge Shadow ES today. I am 15 turning 16 so it is going to be my first car. It is a 1994 and has about 166,000 miles on it. Once I get a battery for it, I will begin to drive it. Looking around, it seems like they are nice cars that last forever. Hopefully mine will do the same.

Not to burst your bubble, but it's a dodge. It will not last forever, especially at that high mileage.

I'm saying this out of experience.

Who wants it to last forever five years will be fine.

1994 Dodge Shadow ES 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Unreliable and troublesome

Faults:

Starter has gone out twice.

Rear shocks needed replacing immediately.

Front shocks are going out now.

Fuel leak that causes the car to smell whenever the fan is on.

Turn signal wiring gone faulty and only work when they feel like it.

Power mirrors no longer work.

Windshield wipers tend to go flying off the windshield when turned on high.

General Comments:

I love the power of this car. The V-6 really makes it fly.

The seats may be the worst of any car ever made.

I just can't trust it anymore, something is always going wrong.

There is no space in the backseat.

Large trunk with great storage.

Fuel mileage is solid for a v-6, about 27 on the highway. 22 in town. Those numbers go down a lot in the winter, however. 22 on highway 16 in town.

Your car is just showing it's age, those are common wear and tear parts.

I also own a '94 Dodge Shadow. I got it for cheap with nothing wrong with it. I have a had a few minor problem including wiring that went bad with my alternator and issues with the shocks. My worst problem has been the brake lights and signal lights not working or only working when they feel like it. I finally found the problem which was the light bulbs were for some reason becoming corroded on the contact point. So now I either replace the light bulbs every 1-2 months or clean them every 3-4 weeks. I think these cars a good little runners.
