"Learn to wrench first, then buy one."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Had the car for 10 minutes and the nut fell off the A\C tensioner pulley, shredding two accessory belts.

Overdrive slips when engaged. Transmission spins like it's in neutral when OD button is pressed.

Heater hose burst open after 4 days.

Thermostat seized after 5 days.

Raised the car with the stock scissor jack and one side of the jack cracked and broke sending the car down on its driver's side rotor. VERY DANGEROUS! No damage, phew...

Car burns oil very rapidly. Smokes so bad that it can fill an intersection if I'm parked at a red light long enough. Yet to figure out cause.

General comments?

I have owned this car for two weeks and it has been nothing but headaches.

I would most likely sell it if it didn't look and perform like the race car of my dreams. That is, when it's actually running...

Really fun on the highway, but watch for those cops.

After reading your comments I've come to a conclusion. You bought a scrap car. How much did you pay for it: $1100?? What would you expect? I'm sure that you could visually see that the car was in bad shape, the hoses were probably all dried and cracked. Plus. you should have did an over all check of you're vehicle to look for things such as loose bolts.

I paid just over $5000 for my '91 TSI last year, and it was in almost perfect condition. It had a lot of miles on it, but the body was in great shape as well as the interior and the engine. The only thing is that you have to keep up on the maintenance for these cars.

If you would pay about $1000 for any car you should expect it to be in bad, if not horrible condition!

I own 2 eagle talons. My first eagle is a 92 standard shift and my second one is also a 92 automatic. I purchased my first one 3 years ago for $3000 dollars tax, title and out the door. I have replaced the front bearings, the brakes, rotors, CV joints, clutch, timing belt and the water pump. Most of the work was done as a matter of general up keep of the car. I took the car in to have the timing belt replaced because it is supposed to be changed every 60,000 miles. The water pump was replaced due to the fact that the engine has to be torn down to get to the timing belt and you might as well change it while it is already taken down. The oil is changed every 3000 miles as general care of the engine. The belts have been checked and changed as needed. I had to have a top hose changed coming off of the radiator because it had a soft spot in it. Most of the front end has been changed with the exception of the struts which are due anytime now. All total, I have spent about $1500 to $2000 dollars on this car. It had 139k when I bought it and now has 189k. I took the car to have the tires rotated and asked the guy not to use an impact wrench. He did it anyway and cracked the rotor. The lug nuts are supposed to be hand tightened only. My car also smokes when it sits too long in traffic or when it sits and idles too long. This is caused from the valve seals as the engine compression is too high and the oil pressure builds up in the engine. I love my car and would not trade it or sell it. I have had many offers for it, but refuse to get rid of it. I love the way it drives, it handles nicely and yes, it does have the speed to go with it.

My second eagle which is also a 92 automatic, I paid $500 dollars for it as the previous owner couldn't pay the mechanics bill. He ran it hot, warped the head, bent 6 valves and almost ruined the engine. I have had the head replaced, new fuel injectors, new O rings, I also put a header on this one because the manifold was shot, new exhaust to handle the header intake and output to keep the engine from over heating due to the pressure build up. I have also had trouble with the overdrive. It does the same thing as you have described, it goes through all of the gears and when it reaches the last one, it acts like it is in neutral. Have you found the cause for this? I still have not gotten that part figured out. It runs great in regular drive. The car sounds great and drives like a dream with the exception of not being able to use the overdrive. So far, I have $1610.00 dollars in this car. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the overdrive? I would really like to know how to fix the overdrive problem. My email address is dmassie1@neo.rr.com or damassie@webtv.net.

These are good cars, but need regular upkeep to maintain good running condition. I am a female and love my car. My suggestion is that you have any car inspected prior to your buying it and keep it mechanically maintained. Good luck in your dealings with Eagle Talons. I would still be interested in buying another Eagle, but with the standard shift, I would love to try one with the turbo engine. Thanks for listening.

Hey, I'm looking for some parts, but I can't find anything.
