1994 Ford Probe SE 2.0 from North America

Summary:

A great sports car!

Faults:

I had to rebuild the transmission.

Most of the electronic sensors in the car have been replaced.

I had some minor repair work done to the engine, but nothing major.

General Comments:

I love this car!! It handles like a dream and it moves quick for such a small engine. I love how good this car can rip into corners. The only complaint I have is that Ford should have gave both the 4 cylinder and the 6 cylinder a little more kick.

1994 Ford Probe 16v 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good looking, but still unreliable crap

Faults:

Cuts out constantly, frighteningly expensive to fix.

Now won't start at all, possible starter problem.

General Comments:

Great looking car. Not much point looking good if it won't go!

As the cutting out problem is a design fault, Ford should fix it free of charge. Don't buy this car unless you have more money than sense.

Well OK, I agree with you to some restraints, I have a Ford Probe L reg in white 16v, it also cuts out when driving and wouldn't start for a while. I took it to a tuning specialist, and have a few suggestions that will fix your problem mate at low cost:

1) Change the distributer cap and rotor arm (£29.99 for the cap and £6.99 for the arm).

2) Change the HT leads.

3) Just above the fuses inside the driver's foot well, there is a little blue box. This is your immobiliser - unplug it and spray the connections with anti rust stuff as this corrodes very easily.

Well that's your problem fixed! But now for some real truths about the Probe (before I go on I don't work for Ford), I recently on Sat 6th Oct 2001, was travalling down the middle lane of a 3 lane motorway, when some "idiot" in a small lorry, decided to swerve over into my lane (there was no traffic in front of him, and he was on a mobile!). So to avoid a collision with him (if I had collided with him, I would have killed him as I was doing a steady 80 MPH, and my car would have gone straight through his door and had his legs off), I swerved over into the fast lane, lost control over my car, did a few circles from the fast lane over to the slow lane, hit the crash barrier closest to the slow lane, flipped in the air, hit a service sign, and landed trapped with the driver's side down to the ground. I tell you mate, the Probe has a few problems, but they can be fixed cheap. If it wasn't for my Probe - I wouldn't be here today. I walked away from an accident that should have killed me with 6 stitches in my arm and whiplash. If you wanna see pics of the car now, feel free to e-mail me on chris3.smith@btinternet.com

And to be honest I would have another one, they're one of the finest cars that I have ever bought (all the rest of the Ford range are crap!)

1994 Ford Probe GT 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

A lot of bang for my buck

Faults:

Nothing yet, but I do hear some noise from the rear brake area. Think it might be the calipers, since I have read that they do go out on the Probes.

The check engine came on right after I bought it, might be the O2 sensor.

General Comments:

I love this car. It is real quick for being a automatic. I think the person who had it before me put on a different exhaust. It feels faster that it should. I still haven't raced anyone yet or timed my 0-60 time, but it sure does feel fast and the steering on this car is so precise.

I got an excellent deal and hope this car runs for a very long time. I plan on doing a few more tweaks to it ie. supercharger and headers. It should be able to beat a few Camaros and Stangs.
