1987 Honda Accord Prestige 2.0 SOHC 12 valve from Indonesia

General Comments:

My '87 Honda Accord Prestige is a good car. It's very old by now. However being member of Honda's medium-large sedan family, it has features that cannot be matched even by some newer cars.

The interior is spacious & doesn't look cheap at all. The suspension is comfortable & cabin noise is pretty quiet. It has indicator that can display various status, such as : which door is not closed, trunk is not closed, & broken brake-light bulb. Handling is good. It's 2.0 SOHC engine provides sufficient power for a car at it's era. It still uses carburetor, as computerized injection engine wasn't popular yet at that time. Fuel consumption is quite reasonable for its size, though cannot be considered very economical (around 8-9 km/litre). The engine's sound is very smooth if it's in good shape. I'm also satisfied with its reliability.

On the downside, it's difficult to drive in small/tight spaces. The steering radius is wide & it also has long body. The body's plate material is pretty thick (doesn't sound like tin cans), however it's prone to rust. Also like other Honda's in Indonesia, spare parts is costly.

Overall, this is an excellent car to own.

1987 Honda Accord 1.8 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Great car!

Faults:

No faults so far, have had the car for a short time. Only thing I don't like is the central lock will lock all the doors, but when you unlock it it only unlocks the drivers door, I don't know whether this is a fault with the car or its just the way they are made.

General Comments:

This car is very good, all the electrics still work very well, it has cruise control, central lock, power steer, electric windows and mirrors and they all still work very well.

1987 Honda Accord Si Hatchback 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Very awesome car!!!

Faults:

Well we just bought this car. Drive it home, and park it for the day cause we only got a temp. permit to drive it home. Then we put insurance on it the next day. Take it for a spin. Right away the temperature gauge shoots up to saying that it is going to explode. So we think OK, but be a thermostat. We change that. That does not correct the problem. Then we notice that the radiator has a crack, so we think, OK maybe that is what is wrong with it. We replace it, still not fixing the problem. So we replace the censors, the one on the radiator, and the one on the engine. Still not fixing the problem. People kept telling us, it must be the head gasket or a cracked cylinder head. Didn't listen to them. So we tried one more thing, we went to the auto wreckers and got a new instrument cluster, thinking the problem may be electrical. Bang, now it works perfect. That cost us a dozen doughnuts, cause we know the guy at the auto wreckers.

Next we replaced the brakes, it needed them really bad!!!

We are going to do the top-end in the spring, cause it pushes a little blue when you first start it up. Plus, it has a great body, very little rust and we want to keep the car as long as possible.

Summary:

Cheap extra car that went the distance

Faults:

The car had a broken odometer. all mileage was an estimate.

Transmission was on the way out when I got it, but had quite a long life.

General Comments:

Car didn't want to die.

Very high mileage when I got it.

Car wasnt used much by me, I was going to school and freshmen were not not allowed cars. Only used on weekends or breaks.

Was great for a spare car.

Front seat needed a little more back support, but great for a cheap car.
