1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 inline 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Would get couple more of at least this year or two!

Faults:

I bought this car from a young couple who were separating. It needed brakes, then very soon later had the engine rebuilt.

About 270,000 the transmission started to leak, bad! Shop(s) replaced seals but it still leaked. Figured the problem was a worn tailshaft that moved just enough to damage the seal after a few hundred miles. Main problem was finding the right seal as the transmission is a Toyota one! No wonder it's so durable. Due to cost of rebuilding the Toyota one, just replaced it with another found after one year with 150,00 miles on it.

The car is pure joy for me and most reliable one I have had; well except maybe a Subaru. In fact this year I just bought another one as the 2nd owner with the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine and five speed trans. The car had 250,000 miles on it and for a "test" drive I went from OK up into NY state for a 3000 mile trip. Flawless! Only issue this car and the first one too that I have noted before I got them, was that the driver's door hinges broke from the body. Getting them welded back on was no problem, but the doors afterward don't align quite right.

Love my Jeeps and will not let them go for anything.

1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Awesome

Faults:

From the time I have owned my XJ, it has leaked some oil; previous owner neglect.

Starter had to be replaced.

Suspension had to be replaced around 185xxx - installed 3 inch lift.

Driver's side ball joints were bad when I bought the vehicle.

Drivers side wheel bearing replaced around 200k.

Auto trans slams if not careful when shifting from reverse or neutral into drive - does shift and drive fine.

Where the pads/caliper sits on the steering knuckle wore down a grove, which caused the pads to not be able to slide properly. Filled in with weld and ground flush.

Rear brakes redone.

A/C condenser has a leak.

Electric radiator fan shroud shattered, and had to be removed and replaced.

General Comments:

Awesome vehicle on road, and amazing off road. With the addition of a 3 inch suspension lift, it's unstoppable.

On the fly 4wd is very handy.

There are however no cup holders equipped on this model.

Damn good in the snow, with the right tires that is.

4.0 liter has plenty of power, and the gas mileage isn't horrible; 16-20, depending on how you drive.

Comfy front seats.

For the age and the miles, this Jeep is awesome. I'm sure that if you bought one with low miles and maintained it regularly, many of these issues can be avoided.

1994 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Impressive, fun, comfortable, reliable

Faults:

Replaced the transmission.

General Comments:

This Jeep was a shock for its performance, and amazing handling. It is over 205000 miles; no smoke, great power.

Having bought it after 14 owners, it is my baby. General upkeep is cheap and easy.

Interior is in great condition, as well as the body.

Thanks Jeep.

1994 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4.0 Liter HO from North America

Summary:

Best SUV ever made

Faults:

The water pump went out twice. Once from age, and once because I tightened the serpentine belt too tight.

Starter went out.

General Comments:

I was never really a fan of the Cherokee until I bought this one. It was the most reliable car I had ever owned.

I didn't think the Cherokee would be very roomy inside, but I was wrong. It has plenty of cargo space, room for my three kids in the back seat, and plenty of power to get us all where we needed to go. Off road and in the snow, this rig shined.

I now have a Wrangler and the Cherokee was much better in the snow than my Wrangler is. It had much better weight distribution and a slightly longer wheel base, making it perform in ways that most SUV's just don't.

I would recommend a Cherokee to anyone that lives in a place that has all 4 seasons and needs reliable transportation all the time. If you maintain a Cherokee, it will last you for a long long time.
