2001 Nissan Maxima ST 3.0 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Good solid car that will last if well looked after

Faults:

Replaced radiator and radiator fan.

Replaced ignition coils.

Intermittent problems with the windscreen washer.

Electric driver seat adjustment needed replacement.

I still use this car as my daily driver after 15 years and it has been great.

General Comments:

Great car. Very good performance from the 3 litre engine and reasonable fuel economy. For 2001 the VQ engine was ahead of its time. I have driven more modern cars, and I think my old Maxi still stacks up pretty well.

Space in the rear seat is good, but headroom is limited for taller people; not as good as my previous Camry in that respect.

Exterior styling is very average; it disguises what is otherwise a very solid, well made car.

Keep on top of the ignition coils and the oxygen sensors - if you don't, the catalytic converters will tank. Unburned fuel is a stern taskmaster ;)

2001 Nissan Maxima GLE 3.0 DOHC V6 from North America

Summary:

If you want junk, buy this!

Faults:

Hub.

Mass air flow sensor 2 times.

Cat. converters.

Axle.

Oxygen sensors 3 different times.

Alternator.

Exhaust.

Now I don't know what's wrong with it, it acts like it's missing really bad. Today I replaced the spark plugs, and it didn't help.

General Comments:

It's junk, a money pit; we bought it for $23000, and we've spent about $3000 in work, and it still won't run,

Did you buy your car new or used?

If used, it could be you ended up with a higher than shown mileage vehicle.

Your troubles are not typical for a Maxima unless it is a high mileage unit.

I check cars before purchase for people, and 40%+ of odometers are incorrect (lots of leased cars are returned back to the dealer incorrect when the lease is over).

The digital readout odometers have most of the percentage of lowered reading as it takes under a minute to adjust most of them downward (check how easy it is on eBay to get the plug in electronics to do it and/or dash units and/or computer modules with lower mileage).

2001 Nissan Maxima SE 20th Anniversary Edition V6 from North America

Summary:

Rides like a dream!

Faults:

Nothing yet. I've only had the car for a little over a month, but before I put it on the road, I sent it to my mechanic who did everything on it to safety it. Not that it needed much aside from new brakes on the rear, sparks replaced, flushed the engine, etc. The only thing that needs a repair is the radiator, which is all rusted, but it doesn't seem to affect my driving. I'll fix it over the summer. The car runs beautifully and is very quiet. The only other problem that I have with it is the gas. It kind of drains easily, which sucks because I'm out of school and unemployed, but not for long though.

This isn't so much of a problem, aside from it being a maintenance problem, but on my driver's side window, and passenger's also, there are micro scratches, two on the driver's side, and I was wondering how can I fix it without getting the insurance involved?? It's probably not a big deal or anything, but I want my car to look perfect, and to keep it in the condition of when I first got her, mint.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

General Comments:

I love this car. It is so comfortable. I've only had one person that sat in that back, and she loved it. Thought that it was very roomy and comfortable, which made me happy.

Aside from all my quibbles, the car rides like a dream and I'm considering, if I ever get enough money, that I'll gladly purchase another vehicle from Nissan.
