2001 Nissan Maxima GLE 3.0 DOHC V6 from North America

If you want junk, buy this!

Mass air flow sensor 2 times.

Cat. converters.

Oxygen sensors 3 different times.

Now I don't know what's wrong with it, it acts like it's missing really bad. Today I replaced the spark plugs, and it didn't help.

General Comments:

It's junk, a money pit; we bought it for $23000, and we've spent about $3000 in work, and it still won't run,

Did you buy your car new or used?

If used, it could be you ended up with a higher than shown mileage vehicle.

Your troubles are not typical for a Maxima unless it is a high mileage unit.

I check cars before purchase for people, and 40%+ of odometers are incorrect (lots of leased cars are returned back to the dealer incorrect when the lease is over).

The digital readout odometers have most of the percentage of lowered reading as it takes under a minute to adjust most of them downward (check how easy it is on eBay to get the plug in electronics to do it and/or dash units and/or computer modules with lower mileage).

Rides like a dream!

Nothing yet. I've only had the car for a little over a month, but before I put it on the road, I sent it to my mechanic who did everything on it to safety it. Not that it needed much aside from new brakes on the rear, sparks replaced, flushed the engine, etc. The only thing that needs a repair is the radiator, which is all rusted, but it doesn't seem to affect my driving. I'll fix it over the summer. The car runs beautifully and is very quiet. The only other problem that I have with it is the gas. It kind of drains easily, which sucks because I'm out of school and unemployed, but not for long though.

This isn't so much of a problem, aside from it being a maintenance problem, but on my driver's side window, and passenger's also, there are micro scratches, two on the driver's side, and I was wondering how can I fix it without getting the insurance involved?? It's probably not a big deal or anything, but I want my car to look perfect, and to keep it in the condition of when I first got her, mint.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

General Comments:

I love this car. It is so comfortable. I've only had one person that sat in that back, and she loved it. Thought that it was very roomy and comfortable, which made me happy.

Aside from all my quibbles, the car rides like a dream and I'm considering, if I ever get enough money, that I'll gladly purchase another vehicle from Nissan.

Even after almost 150k miles, a smooth quiet ride that would get you moving

I had only 2 things go wrong with the car:

Problem 1 was at about 70,000 miles, the check engine came on, and took it into Nissan after I had the codes ran, and found out it was an exhaust problem on the front bank. Nissan delivered a quote of about 1,100 bucks. I said no thanks, as I was told it more specifically was the front bank's cat was failing, but they did replace the O2 sensor on that bank, just to make sure it wasn't that. After deciding not to fix it, and continued to pass smog, I pushed on and put over 70,000 more miles, and was even told the only things I was really doing to the car by not fixing it, was sacrificing some gas mileage.

Problem 2 was around 110,000 second gear shift (from first to second) was a hard shift after the car warmed up. Had a few shops test drive it, and all said basically same things, that it was most likely a spring or something simple, and would be about 500 bucks. Again, chose not to worry about it, and continued driving it, till I decided to trade it in for a newer Maxima.

General Comments:

Loved the car, handled great, had all the options for its time, no major repairs and I did drive it hard at times. Regular oil changes, and other regular maintenance, and it just kept running.

Only real complaint was the gas mileage, where I do about 22,000 - 25,000 miles a year, was to only get 23, maybe 25 at the very very best; it was just costing too much in gas.

Was getting high in mileage, and simply wanted something with less mileage and wanted better fuel economy, otherwise I would still totally have the car.
