I bought this car brand new. The engine light has been on and off since I drove it off the lot, and no one can tell me why.
Less than a year after I bought it, I was replacing the ignition sensors.
It's 5 years old and on it's third transmission.
Twice I've had to replace the upper radiator hose because it rubs against the battery casing and ruptures.
The fuel gauge frequently quits working, so the day after you fill your tank it reads empty.
I must say, though, it's great in the snow! Never had a problem there.
But I will never buy a Pontiac or any other GM car again. I was 24 when I bought this, my first new car, and they have lost a customer for life.
Regarding the fact that you will not buy another GM product, let me throw this at you. I have owned 6 GM cars, all used. 1 Camaro, 2 Trans Ams, 1 Grand Prix SE, and 2 Grand Am SEs. We maintained the cars ourselves and they gave us no problems. They all nearly made the 200k mark. As a matter of fact one of our Trans Ams made it to 254k then we sold it off. Also, no insult to you, the Sunfire is not exactly GMs top of the line. It's their low end economy car. I would encourage you to test drive any one of their other models.
I would like to say this to the person that said to buy one of there high end cars, that when you buy a brand new car for 14,000 dollars that you should not have the ridiculous breakdowns that these cars have. My fuel pump went at 60,000 km, spring broke in the seat, wipers don't shut off, dash lights on all the time, the struts wore out at 40,000km. I could go on and on, and to pay that much for a new car thinking that you are getting your moneys worth, but really all you are getting is headaches and problems.
Since this isn't a high end car it shouldn't be driven as one. I've owned this car for a year and I don't push it so it doesn't push back. Maybe you had some problems with it, but maybe you didn't take care of it the way you should have.
