1993 Dodge Shadow from North America

Summary:

All-in-all, a good car

Faults:

Transmission needed repairs.

Radiator needed repairs.

Air conditioner hasn't worked since I got the car.

The heat takes twenty minutes to a half an hour to become even lukewarm.

In heavy rain, there would be a small puddle on the driver's side and passenger's side floor, it looked like the glove compartment was leaking!

General Comments:

Overall, this was a great car.

It withstood four accidents! The first one, I was rear-ended on the highway offramp with no real damage. The second time, I was not paying attention and backed into my brother's car with no damage. The third time, someone backed into the front of my car, quite fast, and my car received it's first battle wounds. We had to replace the hood, front bumper and grate. No internal damage. The last accident was a head-on collision and the car was totalled, but the air bag did go off!

Overall, I'd say this is a good car.

I have owned a Dodge Shadow for 1 year. It is a great car, it has had 2 problems, the cv-joints (15 minute job), and the rear axle bearing.

Dustin Scott.

1993 Dodge Shadow 4 door sedan 2.4 litre from North America

Summary:

A perfect commuter car

Faults:

I had to replace the transmission after about 70,000 miles, but that was due to rough shifting, not car problems.

Had to replace brakes at 90,000.

Mild electrical problems due with amateur aftermarket speaker installation.

General Comments:

This is my first car, and it has been an absolutely wonderful starter car. Aside from some peeling paint from 9 years in the South Texas sun, it still looks pretty good.

It is wonderfly fuel efficient. I make about a 15 mile commute (Each way) every day, and I only have to fill up twice a month.

It has good acceleration and speed for a small engine.

It corners like a dream at marginally unsafe speeds, and takes everything I throw at it as a beginner driver and comes back for a second round.

1993 Dodge Shadow 4 door 2.2L from North America

Summary:

Great performance for a low price

Faults:

Alternator went at 363,000KM.

Oil leak in rear main seal at 359,000.

General Comments:

I was worried at first when I bought a car with over 350,000KM that I would have lots of problems. Well I haven't. This car runs great for such high mileage.

Even if you need repairs done, the parts are easy to find and relatively cheap.

For a 2.2L this car has a lot of pep. I find I can still accelerate faster than most newer cars on the road today.

Overall this car is a great bargain. Especially since you don't have to worry about the one with high mileage being lemons.

1993 Dodge Shadow ES 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Make sure you have money to fall back on to fix it

Faults:

Most recently, the engine went with only 97,000 miles. The transmission will also need replacing very soon as it has started slipping and bucking.

General Comments:

Very sporty looking. I must say that despite the massive mechanical problems with this car, I still do love it. Not the best, but not the worst car I have ever owned, either.

1993 Dodge Shadow ES 3.0 Mitsu. V6 from North America

Summary:

A great buy for the Money!

Faults:

Radiator split at 80,000 miles.

Water pump went out at 91,000 miles.

Not once did it leave me stranded though.

General Comments:

I just sold this car and bought a 97 Sebring JXi convertible. But this was the best car for the money I've ever purchased. Even when I sold it in 2002, the lady that bought it couldn't believe how fast and clean it was. The Mitsubishi V6 out performed most engines in it's class and the weight of the car (maybe 3000lbs) made it even quicker. What impressed me the most was it's looks, the engine, and not once in 9 years did I ever have to put an exhaust system or muffle on it.

Now that I bought the Sebring, my wife wants a convertible. Guess what she just bought? A 1993 Shadow ES convertible with only 66,000 miles on it. I hope it is as reliable as our first Shadow.
