Nothing has gone wrong after having this SUV for 6 weeks now.
Gas mileage is somewhat low at 14-16 MPG, but I expect better after the initial break-in period.
This is my first American car, and I am pleased with it so far. I had an excellent experience with the dealership, and expect the same from their service department.
I will be taking this onto a desert road soon here in San Diego, and look forward to the ride.
If anyone else has comments to my thoughts, please feel free to reply.
Hey man please can you advise me if I buy this jeep or no I should know because some people tell me it is not good enough plz reply on this email slick_wm@hotmail.com.
Response to the guy who wants advice about buying a JGC: the brakes will probably suck. I have a 2002 and have had it back to the dealer twice for brake problems. Now, less than 10,000 miles after the last time, the problem is recurring. Seems that the rotors don't hold up well, overheat and warp easily. Oddly, the first time I had the problem, the dealership fixed it free. Said that Chrysler was issuing a "kit" to fix the problem. Well, it didn't work, and the second time I had to pay to have the rotors turned. Now, I'm back to the dealership again...
I wish I had seen this website before I bought the vehicle. There are many comments in here from other owners experiencing the same problem. Amazingly, there are some owners who have mentioned that the problem existed in previous Jeeps they owned. But they went ahead and bought another one! Not me. This will be my last.
My advice: steer clear of the Jeep.
I just purchased a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, Inline 6 cylinder with 26,500 miles, a dealer certified vehicle.
I researched the web first before buying. That research prompted me to buy an extended warranty on top of the 3yr/36K mile, 7yr/70k mile new vehicle warranty. Most of the bugs have already been worked out before I bought the Jeep, however I'm a realist and expect, as with any vehicle, some problems to crop up in the future. Thus far I've made several long trips without any problems.
The 4 wheel disc brakes work excellent, and the inline six engine is ideal for my purposes. Snow traction has been excellent here in Vermont. I'm buying 4 snow tires with steel rims for better winter traction. I'd recommend an extended warranty for anyone buying a vehicle with a possible questionable reliability record.
Don't hold your breath waiting for the gas mileage to get better. You're getting the norm.
I have just purchased a 1999 WG Grand Cherokee Laredo it has done 150,000 klms. Picked up for 19000AUD what should have replaced the front rotors already anything else common I look out for. Seems to make a knocking sound when changed into 4 low ratio. Is this common? expensive? willwright@iprimus.com.au Mainly use it on made roads around Melbourne hows the fuel economy and can it be converted to LPG.
In December I picked up my second Grand Cherokee. I now have a 4.0 L 2004 Laredo. I bought it with 18K and have already put 10k more on it. I love it. I have not had any problems. I am getting 16.7 MPG and just bought a new K&N air intake that will hopefully make that even better. I never get stuck in anything, it is a classy looking car, it rides nice, has enough HP, enough cargo space. What else could you want? The 98 I got rid of with 138k because the rear-end was going, but with that many miles it is to be expected.
SOme future unsatisfied buyers here. Fuel economy should be your last concern. A machinery that need maintenance and budget. Most concern comes from unmaintained ones. Harleys are not perfect, but would you trade it for a Suzuki...
