1993 Pontiac Sunbird SE from North America

Summary:

There isn't a nicer car on the road!!

Faults:

I know I'm supposed to report faults, but honestly, I've not had any problems - aside from a new battery, new tires, new oil, etc. Regular maintenance issues. I do now need a new top for her, and I'm trying to find someone who will do a great job for me.

I, too, have the problem with the dashboard, but I thought it was because of the sun in Florida.

I love this little car. I've recently turned 71, and either she is growing or I'm the incredible shrinking woman, 'cause I'm having difficulty seeing over the steering wheel.

I named her "Cupcake" as is my vanity license plate. I really do need to find someone in the Altamonte Springs, FL area who can put on a top for me for a reasonable price, and she really needs to have something done with the windows. It might be the switch or the windows, but three of the windows don't go all the way down.

Cupcake is a little darling, and I enjoy riding in her with the top down and the wind blowing through my hair. She's incredible, SO if anyone knows of anyone who can install a new top or fix that blasted dash, or knows what can be done with the windows or how to lift the seat, please contact me at Buttercup822@cfl.rr.com. I'm old and I'm poor, but I love to be seen in a car that is also great on gasoline.

Actually, I'd love to be buried in her!! I need to find someone who would love her as much as I do to leave her to when I'm gone. Grand kids all say - "That Old Thing" - brats!!

1993 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Fair, great handling, noisy engine

Faults:

Erratic cooling and no heat at heater. Repair by removing thermostat, reinstall cap. Disconnect heater hose return line at engine return line.

Hook external water hose to heater return line and turn on full - reverse flush system (forces air pockets out of head at temp sender) until water fills reservoir.

Be sure the water pump (which is used to adjust timing belt tension) is in the proper location, otherwise it will not pump the water properly as the impeller is offset in the housing. This is a must to stop erratic cooling and to get the heater to work. Took 2 days to find this fault. Adjustment is described in factory manual.

A (under the carpet) water leak will form if the water escape hole under the heater blower motor is not sealed with new sealer such as NP1 sealer. The factory sealer eventually lets water rust out the fire wall because of residue collecting in the low spot under the fan housing.

General Comments:

Good car if you do the proper maintenance.

They used to sell fit kits at car stereo stores. I don't know if they are still available.

If you don't know, the stereos in these thing are tiny, but I've got another idea in mind.

1993 Pontiac Sunbird SE 3.1 from North America

Faults:

Front struts, all around shocks and springs, exhaust, some rust spots, front and rear windows, battery, oil pan, and transmission gasket.

General Comments:

The Sunbird 3.1 V6 convertible is a great car if you put the right money into it.

Some rust has built in the tire well and main rear bumper bulk head, but that will be all patched up.

People are complaining about the dash; what I had done was I got some goop sealer and put about 20 lbs. worth of pressure on it with a heater over night, and it has not given me a problem since.

I had got new rims for cheap at a flea market that are great. I had also ordered a body kit including: front, rear, and side skirts.

I had installed 2 10' subs in the trunk, replaced the two front and rear speakers, and purchased a nice deck, I must say this thing POUNDS!

For the windows I removed the window from the track and applied lubricant and new bushings.

Nice paint, body kit, stereo, leather, and the top down will make the car look great!
