1990 Toyota Camry CSX 2.0 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Camry CSX = Trooper..

Faults:

Alternator has died, as a result the battery died cause I didn't take it to get fixed before the car used up all the battery power.. LOL

Apart from that, the car is a trooper.

Think my exhaust has rusted through. Might have something to do with the river driving (:

I never have had any real problems with the car apart from an aerial breaking due to a friends unwanted drunken handy work.

Dimmer died.

Air/con switch stopped working properly.

General Comments:

Awesome car - I take it camping, I take it on road trips, I take it everywhere.

I drive it to its potential, not all the time, but in general at least once every time I get into it.

Gets serviced every 5000kms and I put premium petrol in it every 2nd to 3rd fill, and octane boost every so often + fuel injector.

This car is the bomb, its still runs fine, but when the clock is saying almost 440000 kms on the original engine, which hasn't been reconditioned, it shows what a great job Toyota did with this car.

I have driven this car through an approximately 8 inch high river that's approximately 10-15 meters across several times, generally do this when I go camping and it makes it fine.

Have done it several times.

Car still performs nicely, not that this is an impressive figure except when you take into account that the car has done almost 440000! It gets to 100 in about 11 seconds, faster than its stats say when it was produced. I think they gave auto specs and I was running octane boost with premium at the time of testing. I get 9-10sec when going down a hill... (:

Appart from that, it is due for a service - getting replaced exhaust, spark plugs, air filter.

Nothing else I know of yet.

Also has a nice sound once a cd player was installed with some new front speakers, 4 inch tweaters, needed something to equilize the back speakers..

1990 Toyota Camry CS Wagon SV21 2.0 EFi from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Boring, but brilliant

Faults:

Apart from general maintenance and 4 new tires I required the following:

New rear struts at 75,000 km.

The bonnet release mechanism went twice whilst I owned it, but I suspect that is due to a bad repair the first time.

The speedometer cable broke at 85,000 but I got it replaced the following day to ensure accurate mileage.

When I sold it the car needed a new steering rack, for which I was quoted $700.

General Comments:

I was given this car by my grandmother when she could no longer drive, and thus had been wonderfully maintained and had only done 60000 km in 10 years.

It was very reliable and fuel economy was excellent, on the freeway I would get approximately 700 km from the 60 liter tank.

The dull styling, especially with the white paintwork was disappointing, but I coped.

Air Conditioning was amazing and was like having a freezer in your car!

I just bought a camry 1991 cs, and it is a great car, that's all I can say!

1990 Toyota Camry LE V6 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

A very safe car!

Faults:

There was little leakage of the power steering fluid, so I had to carry the bottle of ATF Dextron with me for the long trips. But I guess that was just some hose leaking though.

General Comments:

One day I was going 55 miles/hour on a mountain road in the rainy day. The road was very slippery and I lost control on one of the turns. My car started spinning and hit the heavy concrete barrier that prevents you from rolling down the hill. It completely smashed the car. It is totalled now, but nothing happened to me! I didn't even feel pain first! (I got so scared). The pain came an hour later. The only pain there was from the seat belt (I had no air-bags), and the scratch on the knee when I hit the dash board. But I didn't even break any bones! I thank Toyota engineers for designing such safe car.
