It is a total disappointment. Head gasket needed replacement. Faulty electrical wiring, transmission problems, engine problems - I had all! Spent a fortune replacing timing belt, fuel pump, starter (twice), alternator. Now there is a leak in camshaft seal. Crappy interior parts - everything kept falling off after a while. Bought this car loaded, but within 100K Kms - power window, power lock and remote keyless entry doesn't work.
Wish I had done more research before buying this junk. I am really glad that now I can afford to dump this and move to something better. By all means - I will stay away from Chrysler/Dodge this time.
We must have purchased the one good Neon out there. It currently has, no lie, 303,220 kilometres on it. We had the head gasket replaced under a "hidden warranty" during the first year of ownership. Since then we have done the regular stuff. It still has the original exhaust with the muffler replaced only this past winter.
I should point out that our model is the 2 door bare bones version the only option is the CD player. It has an automatic transmission which believe it or not still pulls hard.
I am probably the only Neon owner in North America who can truly say that this car owes us nothing. Would I buy another one - no. We got the good one, everyone else got the bad ones.
Graeme - oh yeah, and it pulls my 14 foot runabout too...
I'm happy that you bought the only good neon out there cuz if I was the guy that bought the neon with all the problems I wouldn't be happy I mean, but if he would keep up wit regulare maintence then I think that he wouldn't have soo many problmes.
That's actually not the case. I have always done regular maintenance - never late - ever. That's what ticks me off even more! And I did not take it to cheap mechanics either - always had it done either at dealer or CAA approved garages.
