"Not worth the time"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Car has stalled a few times for no reason, it's an automatic. The first few times were in the winter, so I thought it was bad weather. Then it happened a few times in the spring, now it's a problem.

It eats oil like a baby eats candy.

It accelerates slower than a Ford Model T.

If I push the gas pedal too hard, the transmission all of a sudden shifts into neutral.

The brake pads are near dead, and from what I remember the guy I bought it from replaced them a year before.

Not the most beautiful thing to look at.

80 on the highway feels like a driving in an earthquake.

90 on the highway will blow the engine. I'm not saying this out of experience, but I can tell from the sound when I'm at 80.

Sometimes it feels like the car is shifting gears when it clearly isn't.

General comments?

Although it is a very comfortable car to sit in, and the hatchback is a big convenience for me, being a guitarist and having large equipment, I generally wouldn't recommend it. When there's more problems with the car than there are good things to say about it, that really says something, that it's not a very good car. I'm still wondering myself why an automatic stalls. Not exactly a money pit of a car, but not exactly your safest tin box either. It was a steal at the time for $450, but now I know why it was only $450.

Sounds like its been thrashed to within an inch of its life, especially as the previous owner managed to wear out the brakes in less than a year.

In any case were you expecting perfection for $450?
