2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 straght 6 from North America

Summary:

Piece of junk

Faults:

My brakes were shaking at 14,000 miles.

The dealer said it was out of warranty and I would have to pay. I called and complained, and after talking to the manager, I found out that Chrysler has extended the warranty on brakes to 15,000 miles because of all the problems they've had. The replaced the front brakes, rotors, and calipers. After about 20,000 miles, the transmission would stick in either first or third gear occasionally. I would either be driving 40 miles per hour red lined, or I would go from zero to sixty in about an hour. I took it to the dealer twice and they said it was fine. Finally, the engine light came on and I took it in and they replaced half the transmission. Now, at 35,800 miles, the entire vehicle shakes and the engine light is flashing. I have to have it towed to the dealer because they said I couldn't drive it. My lease is up in four months and I couldn't be happier. I will NEVER buy another Chrysler product again. Let them go out of business, I don't care. I had an Explorer that I put 106,000 miles on with no problems other than normal wear and tear. My next purchase will be a Ford.

General Comments:

This is an inferior vehicle. I only leased it because it was cheap, but I won't make that mistake again.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 from North America

Summary:

I anticipate this car will prove to be a financial nightmare.

Faults:

Brake rotors warped at 14000 miles.

Brake rotors warped at 28000 miles.

General Comments:

The car is very comfortable.

However the recurring brake problem and lack of concern by the dealer leaves little pleasure in owning this vehicle.

At 14000 miles the vehicle developed a severe shaking in the front end when the brake pedal was depressed at speeds over 35 MPH.

Upon taking the vehicle to the dealer I was advised that the brake rotors had warped. I thought this was unusual at such low mileage, but since the car was still under warranty the dealer replaced the brake rotors.

At 28000 miles I started experiencing the same shaking in the front end and returned to the dealer.

I was told that the brake rotors had probably warped again, but since the vehicle was now outside warranty guidelines I would have to bear the cost myself, a minimum of $475.00.

When I advised the dealer I didn't think I should have to pay because they obviously didn't fix the problem the first time I wad told "take it up with the Chrysler corp."

I asked if this was a common problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the response from the dealer was "we have seen it".

I opted not to have the vehicle repaired by the dealer and took it to a service shop I know to be honest.

Upon examining the vehicle he advised me that all four brake rotors had warped and the cost to fix it was $817.

I called the dealer anonymously, described the extent of the problems and asked for an estimate to repair and was quoted approx. $1100.

I have also owned a Jeep Limited with the same bad rotor problems. The only difference is, I replaced my own brakes and rotors for a fraction of the dealer or mechanics cost. Figure out on how to do it yourself and you'll save money.

OMG your brake rotors warped, it's a common problem, upgrade the,. I hate people who say this car is terrible because the rotors warp, it's a common problem in other Vehicles. I have a 2001 ltd and love it. So you have one problem and the whole cars terrible?

$1100 for brake rotors...jeez...They are 30 to 50 bucks each at Auto Parts Store and take very little knowledge to change. All big SUV's and trucks do this. All my Jeeps eat brakes and my Tahoe eats them too.

Well let's see, my rotors go too, not a big deal. 2001 Grand Laredo. Love the Jeep. Power steering went. It is not the parts, which I'm finding, it is the labour now. Had GM, never never again, they're making their money on parts now.
