2001 Lincoln LS V8 Sport 3.9 liter V8 from North America

Summary:

Beautiful looking piece of junk!

Faults:

Water inside headlamp assembly at 5000 miles.

Rough idle and engine misfire at 6000 miles. Check engine light on. Took car to dealer, they stated problem was a bad coil wire on #8 cylinder. They replaced wire and plug and reset engine light.

Rough idle, misfire and check engine light on 1 day later. Took car back to dealer. After 12 days, I finally received an answer about the car. The engine had a burnt valve? on the #8 cylinder. Entire engine assembly replaced under warranty with a RE-MANUFACTURED motor. After a total of 29 days at the dealer, I received the car back.

The car now has 12000 miles on it and lacks the original power it had with the old engine before the valve problem.

The fuel economy has gone down approximately 3 mpg since the engine replacement.

The steering wheel shakes at 60 mph.

The dealer states they cannot duplicate the problem.

General Comments:

The car is a lease that expires in September of 2004 and that date cannot come soon enough.

We had good luck with our 2001 LS for about 2 years and 50000 miles. Now, problems with the computer that controls the engine have the car in the dealership and parts simply are not available... Had wiring problems with the tail lights. same thing parts were simply not available. We will look to a simpler car next time..

2001 Lincoln LS V8 from North America

Summary:

Nice, but unreliable

Faults:

I purchased this LS as a replacement for the Continental that was having nothing but problems. The LS is no different.

This car has had at least 4 episodes where it refuses to start, sounds like it has no compression... You can crank on it until the battery goes dead. It has been towed away numerous times. It just got towed yesterday, and is over 100 miles from my home. Dealer will go through his usual BS and say 'checked it out and found nothing wrong' This seems to always happen after the car has been moved a short distance, (few hundred feet or so). I am ready to ram the dealers showroom with this car.

General Comments:

I LIKE the car, but it is a $40000++ dollar unreliable tank.

It has plenty of power, and is comfortable, nice to drive, but if its not reliable why have the car? I am going to tell Lincoln they can have it back I just will walk away from it.

2001 Lincoln LS 3.9L DOHC EFI V8 from North America

Summary:

Beauty is only skin deep on the LS!

Faults:

Life threatening failure of all on-board computer systems due to a single loose ground wire at 37,500 miles. This damaged the power steering system, actually breaking a rack gear.

General Comments:

I like the handling, the gutsy power package, the looks. Manufacturing good.

No defects visible. Safety package excellent.

Unfortunately, the fact that one loose ground wire can cause erratic functioning of engine, brakes, transmission and power steering, then complete failure makes it unsafe. You'd think they would design several "fail safe" grounds!

2001 Lincoln LS from North America

Summary:

Expensive car, cheaply made

Faults:

The air and heat ducts make funny noises. The regulator for the rear window is being replaced for the third time! The engine often times makes "louder than usual" noises.

General Comments:

The car is very stylish, and we have gotten many compliments on this car. HOWEVER, the cons far outweigh the pros.

All this car is, in my opinion, is a piece of junk with a Lincoln emblem glued to it!

The leather seats are cheap, it's harder to handle than the Town Car.

2001 Lincoln LS Sport 3.0 from North America

Summary:

High priced nice design - junk

Faults:

Engine blew at 8000.

Wipers broke at 50.

Exhaust broke at 10000

Suspension clunks at 10000.

General Comments:

Nice design, too bad the execution sucks.

Vehicle is completely unreliable.

A complete waste of approx $40000.

1 year later the car is worth less than half the new value.

What did THEY say the cause of engine failure was?

With the mileage given and a 3yr 36000 warranty was all items fixed under warranty with little or no hassle. there was no resolutions mentioned in the review.
